The Xerox Phaser 6700 color laser printer eschews the multifunction features of more expensive models and simply excels at providing fast, high-quality prints in a high-volume office environment. It can print at up to 47 pages per minute, with a resolution of up to 2400x1200 dpi for sharp print quality. The cost of Phaser 6700 printer toner can start to add up a bit, however.

The base model starts out with fairly compact dimensions of 16.9x22x20.3 inches, and weighs 93 pounds before the Xerox 6700 toner is installed. Adding upgrades like a stapling unit or extra paper trays will increase its size, but most don't increase its compact footprint. The unit comes with 1 GB of memory that can be expanded to 2 GB, and the first page out time is quick, at around 8 seconds for color and 7 seconds for monochrome.

A wired ethernet port is included for network sharing, as well as a USB 2.0 port for a direct PC connection. Wireless support is available as an optional upgrade, as well as support for Apple's Bonjour discovery protocol. The initial paper capacity of 700 sheets can be upgraded to a maximum of 1,800 sheets for high-volume workloads.

Sadly, users might find they are spending a lot on replacement toners. The yield of the standard Xerox 6700 toner cartridges is up to 5,000 pages, but prices are higher than many competing models. This brings the cost per page for Phaser 6700 toner cartridges up and makes it less cost-effective than the competition.

With fast speeds and excellent output quality, there are many things to like about the 6700. It is ultimately let down by a high upfront price and expensive Xerox 6700 toner, however. Buyers would do well to compare it to other devices in its class and stay under budget.
