With the ability to print, scan, copy, and fax, the Savin SP C231SF multifunction color laser printer is built for flexibility. The cost for Savin SP C231SF printer toner is a bit high, and print speeds are a bit on the slow side, at 21 pages per minute. Its compact design and excellent output quality might make up for its shortcomings, however.

The base configuration of the SP C231SF is impressively compact, given its feature set and color capabilities. It measures 18.7x18.5x19.4 inches, with a weight of only 66 pounds that also makes it easier to set up and to move. It includes a 35-sheet automatic document feeder for scanning, copying, and faxing, and documents can be sent as emails, saved to network folders, and even converted to editable text with the included OCR software.

The initial paper capacity includes a 250-sheet standard tray and a single-sheet bypass tray. The only available add-on is a 500-sheet paper feed unit that bumps the total capacity up to 751 sheets, so it doesn't have as many expansion options as some other models in its class. The maximum output resolution is 2400x600 dpi when using Savin SP C231SF toner in "Fine Mode", which should provide very sharp prints with good detail.

Toners are widely available from many retailers, but prices for Savin SP C231SF toner cartridges can get a little high. High-capacity versions of the Savin SP C231SF toner cartridges help to reduce the cost per page, however, even though they cost a little more upfront. These supply more than twice the page yield and are much more economical.

Packing so many features into such a compact machine is a feat of its own, but adding solid speeds and excellent color output quality is icing on the cake. Expandability is limited, and operating costs are a bit higher than some competing models, however.
