Samsung ML-1510 Printer Review
The Samsung ML-1510 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office. Its affordable price, compact size, and fast speeds make it an excellent choice. Lack of a control panel is a small downside. For home users with minimal needs, the Xerox 6125, which features Xerox 106R01334 toner, might be a better choice.
The ML-1510 keeps everything very compact. The printer has an extremely small footprint and weighs only 22 pounds, making it an excellent choice for offices where space is at a premium. Home users, especially, will appreciate the fact that the ML-1510 can share a desk with a computer in most situations. The one downside to the printer's sparse design is the lack of any control panel. The Samsung ML-1510 has no screen and no buttons. Every function is controlled by the software. This is somewhat understandable, especially for the price, but a simple Cancel button might have been useful.
Paper capacity is 250 sheets, but the printer only has one drawer. Instead of a second drawer for alternate paper types, the ML-1510 has a single-sheet bypass slot. Users who need to change paper types often may want to consider that they will have to remove all existing paper before placing the new paper type in the drawer.
Samsung ML-1510 toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,000 pages, which is doubled by competing products like Okidata 43487736 toner. The Samsung ML-1510 toner cartridge included with the printer has a capacity of only 1,000 pages, so expect to change it early. The printer includes a Toner Save feature which reduces the amount of toner used per page by as much as 40%.
Print speed is impressive for the price, at around 14 pages per minute. Print quality is mixed. Text is sharp and detailed, but loses some readability at very small font sizes. Graphics quality is somewhat subpar, with banding and blotchiness appearing in some prints. Consumers that need color graphics would benefit more from a printer that uses Lexmark C5220MS toner.
Overall, the Samsung ML-1510 is a lot of printer at an affordable price. The Toner Save mode keeps costs down, and fast speeds will keep users productive.
