Samsung ML-1430 Printer Review
Some people believe that laser printers are specifically for office use and inkjet printers are for personal use. In many cases, this is an accurate assumption. However, there are exceptions, such as the Samsung ML-1430. This unit is monochrome and was designed to meet the needs of students or self-employed individuals. It is not capable of handling the capacity that most offices require, but it will certainly be able to handle basic tasks that most average users call for.
Most students, for instance, will need a printer that is going to produce high-quality text documents, such as term papers. For those cases, this machine is perfect. However, any user that needs color printing or black-and-white graphics will definitely want to look elsewhere. This unit connects via parallel and USB ports, which will be conducive with almost all computers. It is supported by most operating systems, which means it will work with most computers found in households and dorms.
The Samsung ML-1430 toner cartridge that comes with this unit upon purchase can yield 1,500 pages and contains only black printer toner. This starter toner cartridge should last most users for months. Replacement toners are available online and in local supplies stores. There are new and remanufactured Samsung ML-1430 toner cartridges available that can yield 2,500 but are much different in cost. Remanufactured toners are less than half the price as the OEM, but they provide the same quality.
The paper capacity of the ML-1430 is 150 pages, which unfortunately cannot be expanded. The 8 MB of RAM also cannot be upgraded, making this unit a bad choice for growing offices. The TonerSave mode is an economical option that will reduce the amount of Samsung ML-1430 toner used per print, thus giving the cartridge a longer lifespan. This unit will be easy on the pocketbook as well as smoothly handle the basic jobs it is given.
