The Samsung CLP-660 is a color laser printer aimed at small to medium offices that need a solid laser printer in a relatively compact size. It has a 250-sheet input tray, which should be enough capacity for most offices, but there is also an optional 500-sheet tray available to add more capacity as the need arises.

Setup is easy process, users need only open the panel and insert the laser toner cartridge. The CLP-660 includes a simple setup guide should any problems creep up. Setting up the software on a PC is simple as well, and drivers are included for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Once the software is installed, Samsung's "Smart Panel" allows users to access options and features, change settings, and view the status of the printer.

The CLP-660DN includes an ethernet port, which allows the printer to be easily shared across a network. The printer also includes a built-in web server, providing many of the same functions as the "Smart Panel" software, without the need to install additional software. The printer also supports a duplex (double-sided) printing capability. Unlike some printers that do the duplex printing internally, the CLP-660ND ejects the page and then pulls it back in for printing on the other side. This can sometimes lead to mechanical problems.

Samsung CLP-660 toner cartridges are very easy to install, like the Samsung CLP-500 toner cartridges. In a small to medium office, the Samsung CLP-660 toners will probably not have to be replaced very often. Black toner cartridges have a good capacity of 5,500 pages, and the color cartridges have a capacity of 5,000 pages.

Overall, print quality for the Samsung CLP-660 for black text is excellent, very clear and sharp. Color printing leaves a little to be desired, but it is adequate for the occasional color business document or pamphlet. Photo quality is lacking, as with most laser printers like the Xerox toner printers. Users who need to print photos should always consider a dedicated photo printer over a laser printer, as they are not designed for this purpose. Print speeds are fast for its price, at about 24 pages per minute, with a first page out time of around 14 seconds.
