As the price of color laser printers continues to drop, many are competing for the lowest price possible, and sacrificing speed or print quality to help bring prices down. At the same time, some models priced just a little offer a good bargain without sacrificing much in speed or quality. The Samsung CLP-610ND is one such model. Neither the cheapest printer in Samsung's lineup, nor one of the most expensive, it is designed to meet the middle ground of great quality and speed without a high price tag. It certainly surpasses older model the Samsung CLP-315 toner printer.

Speaking of speed, the printer can churn out prints at about 21 pages per minute in both black and color printing. It includes a 250-sheet input tray, which can be upgraded with an additional 500-sheet tray as an option. The CLP-610ND includes built-in duplexing (double-sided printing) which conserves paper, and also supports a multitude of printing options such as 4-UP (four pages shrunk to fit on one page) printing to save even more paper. The duplexing option can even be enabled from the front panel and set as the default.

The printer's size is not particularly large for a laser printer, at 16.8 inches high and 16.7 inches wide, it will likely fit in a variety of places around an office. At 56.4 pounds it is somewhat heavy, but moveable by one or two people.

The Samsung CLP-610ND toner cartridges have a capacity of 5,000 pages per color toner and 5,500 per black toner, which is higher than its direct competitor, the Oki C5150 toner. Users can lower the cost per print by purchasing compatible Samsung CLP-610ND toner cartridges. Print quality is very good, with text remaining sharp as small as 3 pt fonts. Color printing is good, though not as sharp as black. Colors can tend to be oversaturated.

An ethernet port is built-in for easily sharing the printer across a network and the included software allows access to all the necessary features and settings from any computer on the network.

Overall, the Samsung CLP-610ND is a solid laser printer that fills the niche between budget printers and high-performance printers by offering more speed at only a slightly higher price. Its a better deal than the ever-popular Dell 3115cn toner printer.
