Looking for a color laser printer that you can use in your midsized or small office? You may want to look into the Okidata C7400. Though it isn't the fastest machine on the market, it is capable of high resolutions that should please your office immensely. It also comes standard with duplex printing and 256 MB of memory. It can connect via USB, parallel and ethernet cord, which is an upgrade to the C7200 that didn't offer ethernet support. It has a very low upfront price for all of its features, and it even using low costing Okidata C7400 toner cartridges.
When using the
Okidata toner, resolutions of up to 1200x1200 dpi are possible. Upon purchase, four Oki C7400 toner cartridges are included, and you will need to maintain the cyan, magenta, yellow and black
printer toner in order to keep the machine operating. Due to the duty cycle of 10,000 pages that the Okidata C7400 toner has, though, it shouldn't be too hard to maintain them. You probably won't find yourself replacing toners very often at all.
When using the black Oki C7400
toner cartridge, up to 20 pages per minute are possible. If printing in color though, the speeds are significantly slower at 12 pages per minute. For most offices, 12 pages per minute probably won't do. If the majority of your prints are black-and-white, though, these speeds will probably be just fine.
Windows and Mac operating systems are both compatible with this laser printer, but smaller operating systems like Linux and Novell are not supported. The machine is pretty compact with dimensions of only 16.9x24.4x16.9 inches, but its 104.7 pound size might weigh you down a little. It also can only print on transparencies and plain paper, which could be a little limiting to many offices. For those with simple needs, though, this printer will work just fine.
