Okidata B730 Printer Review
The Okidata B730 is a base model in a series of monochrome laser printers that can print at very quick speeds of up to 50 pages per minute. The other models in its series include the B730n and B730dn, which are very similar except for their expanded networking features and automatic double-sided printing. What is most impressive about the B730 is how much it includes for such a low price tag, providing users with an easy-to-use and flexible front control panel, ample media handling and affordable toners.
The B730 is equipped with a standard USB port that will allow it to connect directly to a user's computer, also going further to offer compatibility for printing from flash drives. The ethernet network connection is ideal for those looking to share the device, while built-in secure printing features like requiring a PIN for sensitive documents will allow users to feel safe knowing their personal jobs are protected.
One of the highlights to owning the B730 is its expandability, which includes the option to increase the standard memory of 128 MB to a total of 640 MB. Most noteworthy is its upgradable media handling, which can be increased from 1,250 pages to a maximum of 1,800 pages to handle heavy-duty printing.
This machine should be moderately easy to use, including a basic control panel that has an LCD to provide status updates on jobs, buttons for specific print functions and a navigation pad. The panel also incorporates a button to turn the device on an off and an LED that will flash to notify when Okidata B730 printer toner is low.
Users that would rather a document print quickly than have the best quality results can select its Fast mode, which prints documents with a maximum resolution of 600x600 dpi using black Oki B730 toner. Those that are more concerned about their project printing with clarity and detail can opt for the Best Quality mode, which prints jobs with a sharp maximum resolution of 1200x1200 dpi.
The device uses one black Okidata B730 toner cartridge that has a standard yield of up to 15,000 pages. To increase productivity users can opt to replace expired supplies with high-capacity Oki B730 toner cartridges, which can yield a maximum of 26,000 pages each.
In terms of combining quality and cost-effectiveness, the B730 does not disappoint. Users with expanding workflows will benefit from its upgradable media handling and quick output, while those printing sensitive documents can do so with ease. Although it doesn't benefit from more versatile connectivity like the pricier models in its series, the B730 is a good solution for high-volume budget printing in small and home offices.
