Okidata B2400 Printer Review
The Okidata B2400 is a basic laser printer that can print only in black-and-white, but with impressive speed and quality. It does not have the extra accessories, multiple functions, or fancy features that can be found on many modern office printers, but it is compatible with most major operating systems and compact in design, making it well suited for a home office. Computers can be connected via USB or parallel port, and the B2400N model variation offers a built-in ethernet interface that will allow multiple users to share it.
Though it is only 12.6x8x7.1 inches and 9.3 pounds, this unit can generate up to 15,000 prints per month and holds an Okidata B2400 toner cartridge that yields 2,000 pages. It also has an input tray that can handle as many as 150 sheets of standard paper, and an output tray that will catch up to 30 documents. A single-sheet manual bypass slot is available for printing on alternative media, such as envelopes or labels.
There are two consumables that will eventually require replacements: a 15,000-page imaging drum and the Oki B2400 toner cartridge with black printer toner. The easiest option for finding replacement toners and drums is the internet, as many third-party vendors offer both OEM and compatible Okidata B2400 toner. Some consumers may be more comfortable purchasing name-brand replacements, but the compatible Oki B2400 toner is guaranteed to produce the same yield and quality at around half the price.
With 8 MB of memory and a 266 MHz processor, the maximum print speed is an impressive 21 pages per minute with a first page out time of 5 seconds. To reach the maximum quality, however, the speed must be sacrificed slightly as more Okidata B2400 toner will need to be applied to the page. In the quality-focused print mode, a maximum resolution of 1200x600 dpi can be reached.
The frame of this unit is somewhat bland, with a simple white and gray box shape; however its compact design minimizes the space it will take up. It is affordable, fast, easy to use, and equipped to print daily tasks at a high-quality level. Home and small office users should certainly take a closer look at the Okidata B2400 printer.
