Okidata B2200 Printer Review
The Okidata B2200 is one of the smallest laser printers on the market, fitting perfectly on a small desk next to the computer. It takes up only 12.6x8x7.1 inches and is extremely mobile at only 9 pounds. The compact design will benefit users in small spaces, such as a home or micro office. Reviews for this device are mixed, but on paper the B2200 certainly seems like a good fit for anyone looking for an affordable personal monochrome printer.
A full-speed USB port is the primary connection option on the base model, but the B2200n model offers networking via ethernet interface. Another thing the B2200n exclusively offers is 16 MB of RAM, whereas the standard model has only 8 MB. Otherwise, the two variations are the same. Both are compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems, operate on a 266 MHz processor, and have a maximum monthly duty cycle of 15,000 prints.
Because it is a monochrome printer, only black Okidata B2200 printer toner is used. A maximum resolution of 1200x600 dpi can be reached unless the print mode is set to TonerSave, which reduces the amount of Oki B2200 toner that is applied to the page. Some reviews mention the high price of replacement toners, but more affordable options are available. Compatible Okidata B2200 toner cartridges can be purchased from third-party vendors and they cost less than a third as much as OEM versions.
Up to 20 pages per minute can be printed, which is mediocre for an office printer. The input tray will hold as many as 150 sheets of plain paper, while the output tray can catch only about 30 pages. For alternative media, such as envelopes, a single-sheet manual bypass slot is available. A series of indicator lights on the front panel will tell users if the paper is out or jammed and if the Okidata B2200 toner is running low.
A large office would be hindered by the B2200, but it is reliable option for a personal printer. It is durable and compact with affordable replacement Oki B2200 toner cartridges and impressive quality. Text documents will be crisp and professional without draining the budget or taking up too much space.
