The Lexmark X63 color inkjet has incredible multifunction features that are perfect for a home or small office environment. Print speeds are slow, at up to 14 pages per minute for black and 7 pages per minute for color. The maximum printing resolution of 2400 by 1200 dpi produces sharp prints. The high cost of Lexmark X63 ink tends to be the unit's least appealing aspect and other models have better ink, such as Canon PGI-220BK ink; the printer ink gives users a very high cost per page.

A very compact unit, it measures only 8.1x17.4x12.6 inches, and is very lightweight, at only 15 pounds. A wide variety of media types are supported, including transparencies, photo paper, plain paper, labels and more. The machine includes color and black Lexmark X63 ink cartridges. The black is unimpressive and produces half the quality of competition, like HP 74XL ink.

With printing, scanning, copying and faxing capabilities, it would seem to have all the bases covered. Most of its functions work quite well, but because the machine only has an automatic document feeder with no flatbed scanner, it is limited to standard sheets that can be fed through the machine. Fax speeds are slow, at only 14.4 kbps. With the majority of modern models supporting faxing speeds up to 33.6 kbps, it is hard to justify settling for a slower speed. Faxing and copying can both be done in standalone mode, without the need for a computer connection to the machine.

Consumer reviews of the inkjet printer are mainly negative. While some users found it to be an excellent value for the price, many complain of technical problems, such as paper jams and print head misalignments. Others have mentioned expensive Lexmark X63 ink, difficulty replacing Lexmark X63 ink cartridges and operating the machine to be problems.

Overall, the Lexmark X63 is a decent multifunction machine, but its slow speeds, lackluster print quality and expensive printer ink costs make competing models, such as the OfficeJet J6480 which features HP 75XL ink, a much better value, even if buyers have to spend a bit more.
