Lexmark X6150 Printer Review
The contemporary design of the Lexmark X6150 is likely to attract consumers looking for a personal printer for the home, but it will also be a solid addition to a small office. Limited by a monthly print capacity of 5,000, this inkjet all-in-one machine will not be able to handle the high volumes of busy offices. However, its ability to print, scan, copy, and fax in color while still only taking up approximately 10x20x17 inches makes the X6150 the perfect one-stop shop in a low-volume environment.
Only computers that use Windows operating systems are compatible and the only provided connection option is a USB port. Networking and wireless support are available, though, as optional upgrades. The LCD can display up to 16 characters, which is enough to show the progress of jobs, the function that is being used, and the remaining level of the Lexmark X6150 ink. It includes 16 MB of memory as well as a single input paper tray and one output tray that slides in to minimize storage space.
With just one push of a button, users can make copies of various media up to 8.5x11 inches, which is the maximum paper size that will fit on the flatbed scanning surface. Images and text can be resized, and the 48-bit color depth gives scans an impressive color range. The maximum optical scanning resolution of 1200x4800 dpi also provides a lot of detail. When processing a fax, the 33.6 Kbps transmission speed will complete the task in less than 10 seconds.
One Lexmark X6150 ink cartridges holds cyan, magenta, and yellow printer ink, while the other supply produces only black. The tricolor supply yields up to 450 pages while the black Lexmark X6150 ink cartridge can yield as many as 600 pages. The highest resolution that can be reached when printing is 2400x1200 dpi for black-and-white documents and 4800x1200 dpi for color. The more affordable remanufactured versions of the Lexmark X6150 ink will generate the same yield and quality, but for less than half the price.
A busy office will appreciate the quick speed of this unit, maxing out at 19 pages per minute in black-and-white and 15 pages per minute when color printer ink is included. This will naturally vary based on the particular print mode that is set as well as the overall complexity of the document or images being produced.
Weighing less than 20 pounds, the Lexmark X6150 is conveniently compact. It takes up minimal room and has a sleek exterior that will work with most office decor. This inkjet printer may be a bit limited for heavy duty offices, but consumers with less demanding needs will love it.
