The Lexmark X5410 has very low upfront price, which is surprising considering how impressive the device is on paper. According to a number of customer reviews, however, it is unreliable and inconsistent. With all-in-one capabilities that include scanning, printing, and copying in black-and-white and in color, the X5410 was designed to meet the versatile needs of a home office. Ranging from professional text documents to borderless photographs, the inkjet thermal printing technology is designed to handle it all with precision and accuracy.

There is a rear USB 2.0 port for connection to a computer using Mac or Windows, a front-loading USB PictBridge port for direct connection to digital cameras, and slots to load images directly from memory cards. If users prefer wireless connection or an ethernet interface for networking, those options are available. The X5410 is not exactly stylish, with a white, square frame that measures approximately 8x18x13 inches. It will be simple to install and move, however, weighing less than 14 pounds.

Only two slots are present for installing the printer ink, yet three Lexmark X5410 ink cartridges are available for this machine. The black and tricolor supplies come in two sizes, standard and high capacity. The tricolor options, which hold yellow, cyan, and magenta Lexmark X5410 ink, can yield 150 or 450 pages. The black supply will yield either 175 pages or 475 pages. There is also a specialty photo color version, which consists of black, light cyan, and light magenta printer ink, elevating it to a 6-color Lexmark X5410 ink system, which is ideal for photo printing.

When printing black-and-white documents, up to 22 pages per minute can be printed and the maximum resolution is 1200x1200 dpi. Color pages can reach up to 4800x1200 dpi and the maximum rate is 16 pages per minute. The first page will begin printing in around 8-10 seconds. Copies can be resized and will be created as a maximum rate of 20 copies per minute. The flatbed scanner has a 48-bit color depth and a 600x1200 dpi optical resolution. The input tray holds 100 sheets of various media types while the output tray holds only 25 documents and the ADF can hold 15 sheets of regular paper.

Though the reviews for this inkjet all-in-one device are not encouraging, users on a tight budget will certainly appreciate it. Not only is it inexpensive off the shelf, but users can buy remanufactured Lexmark X5410 ink cartridges for a lower price than the OEM versions. It may seem like a value, but be aware of its shortcomings.
