The Lexmark X5070 is a printer, copier, scanner and fax machine all bundled into a single, compact device. The device's print function is on the slower end compared to other models in its class of inkjet printers, with maximum speeds of only 24 pages per minute for monochrome documents and 17 pages per minute for color. While slightly behind some of the higher end models in its class, the X5070 has a decent print output and all-in-one capabilities that are suitable for home offices.

The device offers standard elements seen in comparable models such as the option to make up to 99 copies from an original document, a 30-sheet automatic document feeder for continuous scanning and a USB port for basic PC connectivity. However, it lacks the ability to print wirelessly or straight from a camera's memory card, leaving it only with a wired PC connection.

The front panel is simplistic, providing a monochrome LCD for status updates and a four-way navigation pad. Users also will be able to automatically redial a fax number and select between monochrome and color copying from the front panel.

Paper handling is minimal, including a single input tray capable of storing a maximum capacity of 100 pages of media like coated paper, photo paper and plain paper. The unit is best suited to handle simple projects like school papers and personal photos, printing documents with a maximum resolution of 1200x1200 dpi using black Lexmark X5070 ink and 4800x1200 dpi when using color supplies.

The device has a standard 4-color printer ink system that can be expanded to 6 colors by adding an optional photo color supply. Standard color replacements can yield 150 pages, black replacements can yield 175 pages and the photo color Lexmark X5070 ink cartridge has a capacity of 135 pages. Users can purchase optional high-capacity supplies that can yield up to 475 pages for the black Lexmark X5070 ink cartridge and 450 pages for the color supply.

Overall, this inkjet printer doesn't offer a lot of bang for a user's buck, but it is versatile enough to handle basic color and monochrome projects. Due to its output speeds, basic design, low-yielding printer ink and limited connectivity, buyers may be better off spending a little more for a multifunction home printer with increased versatility.
