The Lexmark X3650 is a multifunction printer, scanner and copier that is targeted toward home users and students, due to its simple and easy-to-use design. The unit has maximum print speeds of 25 pages per minute for monochrome documents and 18 pages for color, which is fairly average when compared to other similar inkjet models. While the X3650 wins points for its affordability and satisfactory photo and graphic output, it faces some notable setbacks due to its minimal package of features and basic setup.

At 18x12x7 inches, this unit is a tad larger than expected for its class, but it should fit comfortably next to a user's PC on their desktop. While the X3650 comes with a USB port for wired connection to a PC, it doesn't include with the necessary cable. Additional connections include memory cards slots and a PictBridge port for direct photo printing. With the usefulness of PC-free photo printing, it's a letdown that this device lacks an LCD for previewing or editing images.

The unit's single input tray can support a minimum media size of 4x6 inches and a maximum size of 8.5x17 inches, and its ability to handle up to 100 pages at once should be enough to support light-duty needs. Using photo paper and Lexmark X3650 printer ink, the device's image output and resolution of 4800x1200 dpi is decent enough for framed photos or personal photo albums. Text projects didn't perform quite as well against tests, but it should suit basic printing needs like school papers.

The device uses two Lexmark X3650 printer ink cartridges: one black supply that can yield around 475 pages and one color supply that has a capacity of 500 pages. Users also have the option to add a photo color Lexmark X3650 ink cartridge that can last approximately 135 pages.

While its inclusion of direct photo printing connections isn't often seen in other models in its price range, the X3650's lack of other photo-based features like a color LCD screen keep it from excelling as a personal photo printer. However, those in need of a simple 3-in-1 device for school or home use will benefit from this inkjet printer's decent speeds and output.
