The Lexmark X2580 is a multipurpose inkjet printer that can print, scan and copy documents with full-color detail. The device isn't the quickest among its class and it isn't one of the slowest either, printing maximum speeds of 22 page per minute for monochrome documents and 16 pages per minute for color. Across the board, the printer's features are satisfactory, though speeds, output and flexibility are fairly average compared to comparable units. Still, it could be a solid choice for home or small office printing.

The device has a compact size that measures only 14x19x9 inches, allowing it to fit on crowded desktops. The single input tray tucks into the machine to help keep the footprint small, and is capable of storing up to 100 pages. The unit supports media like card stock, envelopes, labels, banner, index cards and photo paper. The flatbed scanner can accept media with a size of up to 8.5x11.7 inches. The copier has the technology to minimize original documents to as little as 25% of their size and a maximum of up to 400%.

The machine's front panel is fairly basic and provides access to copying and scanning features, as well as LEDs to indicate when paper and Lexmark X2580 printer ink is low. Also built into its body is a standard USB port for connectivity, which is primitive considering the inclusion of wireless and network printing in other models on the market.

The unit's print system incorporates one 300-sheet capacity tricolor supply and one black Lexmark X2580 printer ink cartridge that can yield only 175 pages. Such yields can only support environments with light-duty volumes and could mean frequent replacement. The device is able to print sharp text projects with a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi using black Lexmark X2580 ink cartridges and acceptable photos with a resolution of 4800x1200 dpi.

With its low-yielding supplies and minimal paper capacity, this inkjet device is best suited for personal use or very small-volume offices. While it doesn't bring anything new to the table, the X2580 is a reliable multifunction printer if networking is not a concern.
