The Lexmark X203 is the base model in a series of monochrome laser printers that is primarily well-received by experts, with one of the exceptions being its slow print speeds that tested slower than its estimated maximum of 23 pages per minute. The additional model in the series is the X203N, which expands to include an ethernet interface for network connectivity. The X203 has its pros and cons, but overall its ability to print, scan and copy documents and a range of easy-to-use features make it a good solution for small or home offices.

The unit has a more basic design that includes only a 2-line monochrome LCD that may be hard to read. The control panel has only a handful of buttons, but there is an LED for notifying users when toners are low. The X203 is designed to meet fairly light daily printing needs, offering a maximum monthly duty cycle of 10,000 pages and a total media capacity of 250 pages.

Lacking the ethernet interface of its more advanced series model, the X203 includes only a high-speed USB port for connectivity. Another feature it leaves out is an automatic document feeder for continuous scanning, which is typically found in multifunction devices.

The device uses image enhancement technology to print with a sharp output quality using Lexmark X203 printer toner. Text projects tested to have a satisfactory output with a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi that is certainly good enough for internally distributed projects.

Using only one black Lexmark X203 toner cartridge, this device is cost effective for day-to-day monochrome projects. Each replacement Lexmark C203 toner cartridge can yield a total of 2,500 pages and support low-volume printing.

Either light-duty small offices or moderately busy home offices will find that the X203 is a capable multifunction printer. For an affordable price, this device offers a simple set of elements that will be easy to use, but buyers looking for a larger bundle of features should keep looking.
