Looking for a multipurpose inkjet device that won't disrupt a tight budget? The Lexmark Prospect Pro205 is one of the most affordable and versatile home office machines on the market. For a low upfront price, the Pro205 offers printing, copying, scanning and even faxing. It is compact in size, weighing less than 20 pounds and measures approximately 8x19x14 inches. The addition of the Pro205 to a home office will save space, time and resources.

In draft mode, which reduces the amount of Lexmark Pro205 ink used per pages, black-and-white documents can print at a rate of 33 pages per minute and color pages can be produced at 30 pages per minute. However, in a mode that is designed for optimal quality, the speed will drop down to only about 10 pages per minute. The copy and fax functions both work at productive speeds, maxing out at about 25 copies per minute and 7 seconds to receive a fax.

Most major operating systems are compatible with the Lexmark Pro205. Wireless capabilities are built in, but other connection options are available. A standard USB port, PictBridge port for connecting directly to a digital camera, and slots for memory cards can all be used to upload documents and images. Without using a computer, these uploads can be displayed on the 2.4" color LCD screen.

Four individual Lexmark Pro205 ink cartridges are used during operation, each holding an individual color of printer ink (cyan, magenta, yellow or black). The standard capacity options can yield about 200 pages each, but the high-capacity Prospect Pro205 ink cartridges can produce between 500-600 pages before expiring. Replacement printer ink is easy to locate online and some alternative vendors offer compatible Lexmark Pro205 ink, which is more affordable than OEM versions.

The maximum monthly print volume for this inkjet unit is 5,000, though the manufacturer recommends not exceeding 1,000 pages to prolong its life. Paper capacity is slightly limited, with a 100-sheet input tray and 25-sheet output tray, though there is an automatic document feeder that can hold up to 35 sheets. Duplex printing is also available.
