The Lexmark C782, also known as the C782N, is a color laser printer with expandable features, efficient production speed, and the overall capacity to perform well in a fast-paced, high-volume office. A rear USB port, front-loading USB port, and an ethernet interface for networking are all built-in connection options. Also, a wireless connection can be optionally added with the purchase of the appropriate adapters. Most major operating systems are compatible with the C782, so it will fit into most environments.

Certain additional features that can be added to the base unit are built into alternative models. The C782DN is nearly identical to the C782N, but adds a duplexer for dual-sided printing. The C782DTN has the same features as the C782DN but includes extra paper attached to the bottom of the unit, making it about 8 inches taller than the C782N.

Three different sizes of Lexmark C782 toner cartridges are available for this machine. The toners that come in the box can yield up to 6,000 pages while the high-capacity versions can yield up to 10,000 pages before expiring. Extra high-capacity Lexmark C782 toner cartridges might be the best option for offices with heavy volumes, as the 16,500-page yield will minimize the cost per printed page, though they will cost considerably more upfront.

The most important elements of an office laser printer are speed and quality, and the C782 excels in both departments. Black-and-white documents can print at a rate of about 40 pages per minute while color documents can be produced at a rate of 35 pages per minute. In black-and-white, the maximum resolution is 1200x1200 dpi, but this is elevated to 4800 dpi when using all colors of Lexmark C782 printer toner.

On the base model, the standard input paper capacity is 600 sheets; this can be expanded to up to 3,000 sheets by adding extra trays. The 800 MHz processor helps generate the high rate of production, and the 256 MB of RAM can be expanded to 768 MB as volume increases. The maximum monthly duty cycle is 150,000 prints, though Lexmark recommends not exceeding 17,000 prints per month to prolong the printer's life.

The yield of the extra high-capacity Lexmark C782 toner will keep the cost per page low enough to fit in most company budgets, though small offices may be better off with a lower-capacity unit. It offers a few model variations and has upgradable features that allow it to grow with an expanding business. In general, the C782 provides the quality and speed required in a busy office.
