The Lexmark C748 color laser printer is a single-function device in a business world that often favors multifunction designs, but it provides fast speeds of up to 35 pages per minute, and is an excellent choice for high-quality color printing in a mid-size office or workgroup. It has features like duplexing in upgraded models to save paper, and a toner save mode to reduce the usage of Lexmark C748 printer toner, for affordable and eco-friendly operation.

In addition to the base model, the C748E, the series includes the C748DE and C748DTE, with upgrades for duplexing and extra paper capacity, respectively. Warm-up times are fast, in as little as 9 seconds, and energy consumption for the fuser is reduced from previous models to help users save money. Each of the models includes Gigabit ethernet for fast transfers and quick printing.

The 4.3-inch color touchscreen emulates a tablet interface, for easier navigation and intuitive control over printing. The basic model starts with a 550-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose feeder. When fully decked out with optional upgrades, it can handle a maximum of up to 4,300 pages, for serious workloads in a busy networked office environment. Print quality was a point of contention in some reviews, however, with some mentioning weak text and graphics output in particular.

While features like a toner save mode are admirable, it is somewhat negated by expensive Lexmark C748 toner cartridge prices. High-capacity replacement toners help reduce the cost per page somewhat, but even with a yield of 7,000-12,000 pages each, these Lexmark C748 toner cartridges are still more expensive than those of competing models.

Overall, the Lexmark C748 has a lot to offer for high-volume mid-sized offices, including fast speeds and an intuitive touchscreen control panel. Unfortunately, it is let down by lackluster print quality and expensive Lexmark C748 toner to the point that it is difficult to recommend.
