Lexmark 1000 Printer Review

Consumers that are in need of an inexpensive printer that will handle the occasional black-and-white or color printing needs of a home or dorm room might like the Lexmark 1000. This machine is as simple in design as it is in function and is clearly not intended to be used for high-volume or fast-paced environments. What the 1000 does offer, though, is a conveniently small footprint and helpful software to get users started.

Even with a straight paper path, the output rate is quite slow. When printing standard black-and-white documents, such as a homework assignment or an email, only about 3.5 pages can be printed per minute. Adding the color Lexmark 1000 printer ink into the mix slows the speed down to a maximum of 1.5 pages per minute. Patience is a virtue, and a requirement for owners of this inkjet printer.

Two Lexmark 1000 ink cartridges are needed to operate the device. One supply holds only black printer ink while the other supply compartmentalizes cyan, magenta, and yellow Lexmark 1000 ink. Replacements are not overly priced, but remanufactured versions are also available from third-party vendors that will bring the operational costs down considerably. Two different capacities of the black Lexmark 1000 ink cartridges are available, with one yielding 225 pages and the other yielding up to 600 pages. The color supply can yield up to 225 pages before expiring.

A parallel connection is the only option, Windows as the only supported operating system. The input tray can hold up to 30 pieces of paper and various types of media are supported, including transparencies, high-gloss paper, envelopes, labels, and even iron-on transfers for clothing. The 1000 can be moved around easily, as it only weighs about 5 pounds. It will also fit just about anywhere, considering it measures just about 14x6x6 inches.

Though this basic inkjet printer does not have unique qualities or specialty capabilities, it will be a reliable and affordable unit for a home that does not require printing often. It would be too slow and limited in functionality to have in an office, however.
