Lanier LD425 Printer Review
The Lanier LD425 is primarily a copier, but the addition of print, scan and fax functions make this monochrome laser device a good fit for busy small offices. Users that are looking for a quick device may not find the LD425 appealing, considering its maximum copy speeds of 25 pages per minutes are significantly slower than models like the Lanier MP 5002, which has an output of up to 50 pages per minute. The LD425 does have its positive attributes, however, offering one of the larger media capacities seen amongst its class, and versatile connectivity options for a low price.
Worth noting about this machine is its easy-to-use control panel, which incorporates a color touchscreen LCD for quick access to popular features and a number pad and speed dial buttons for fax numbers. Users can also use the LCD to monitor Lanier LD425 printer toner levels, select the number of copies for a job and access secure printing features. In addition, this flexible control panel helps the LD425 copy and fax documents without the help of a computer, making it a standalone device. The rear USB port remains a standard connection for users looking to print documents straight from a computer, while its ethernet interface enables easy network sharing.
What stands out about the LD425 is its media handling, which can be expanded from its standard capacity of 1,100 pages to a maximum of 3,100 pages. Other optional elements include finishing features such a stacker, an automatic stapler and hole puncher. The scanner is also equipped with its own 50-sheet automatic document feeder. Considering its upgradable media handling and ability to copy up to 999 documents from an original, this device is fully able to keep up with busy high-volume offices.
The device uses one black Lanier LD425 toner cartridge that works with its print head system to copy documents with a maximum resolution of 600x600 dpi. Offices looking to increase productivity will be able to do so easily and inexpensively with its high-capacity toners, which can last up to 11,000 pages for each Lanier LD425 toner cartridge replacement.
The LD425's extensive package of features are impressive considering its inexpensive price, providing users with countless computer-free control tools, a generous media capacity and an abundance of connectivity. The only point of concern is its slow speed, but its output isn't slow enough to keep this monochrome all-in-one device from being useful for expanding small offices.
