Konica-Minolta 160 Printer Review
The Konica-Minolta bizhub 160 is a good business solution for copying, printing and scanning documents for small offices. Buyers that are also need in need of a fax machine can opt for the 160's more advanced series model, the 160F. The base model is tested to copy at maximum speeds of 16 pages per minute, which is sufficient enough, but not the quickest performance of the top monochrome laser printers in its class. With a decent package of features and long-lasting bizhub 160 printer toner that can handle daily multipurpose needs, the 160 is well worth its high price tag for those looking to boost productivity.
Experts note that the unit's maximum monthly duty cycle of 16,000 pages is slightly lower than the top models in its class, but is still sufficient enough to support medium volumes. One area in which the 160 does outperform comparable printers in is its paper handling, which includes a standard 250 sheet multipurpose tray and an optional high-capacity cassette tray that will allow it to store a maximum of 750 pages. The device also comes with a 50-sheet automatic document feeder dedicated to continuous multiple-page scanning.
The device comes with a rear USB port for basic connectivity to a user's PC, omitting standard options seen in office units like an ethernet interface for networking and Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity, though ethernet is available as an upgrade option. The front of the 160 incorporates a full control panel that includes a monochrome LCD, an LED alert system for notifications on expired Konica-Minolta 160 toner and dedicated buttons for scanning and copying. For PC-based control, the device includes PageScope Workware software that will simplify PDF projects by allowing users to view, edit and share pages in one place.
The device uses one black Konica-Minolta 160 toner cartridge, which eliminates the ability to print or copy any color documents. However, the unit has a satisfactory monochrome text and graphic resolution of 600x600 dpi using bizhub 160 toner. Each black Konica-Minolta 160 toner cartridge can yield up to 5,000 pages, which is a large enough capacity to support a heavy workflow.
The 160's only disappointing feature is its slower print output, with features like expandable paper handling and long-lasting toners overshadowing its slower speeds. Unless users want a multipurpose printer that can also fax like its 160F series model, this device is one of the better contenders in its class of small office units.
