Kodak 5210 Printer Review

With the Kodak ESP 5210 all-in-one inkjet printer, the company bundled in the essential features for home use, along with wireless support, but not many extras. Its maximum rated speeds of up to 30 pages per minute black and 29 pages per minute in color are impressive, but it only reaches them in Draft mode. The combined color Kodak 5210 printer ink supply is easier to replace, but could mean more waste.

The 5210 can handle printing, scanning, and copying quite well. Without an automatic document feeder, it takes a bit more work to use its flatbed scanner, but this is hardly surprising in such a compact and affordable machine. A 1.5-inch LCD screen is incorporated into the design, but its small size can make it difficult to navigate menus and features, or preview images, though there are dedicated buttons for many functions, and a light that will alert users of errors, or when the ESP 5210 printer ink is low.

The unit includes a USB port for a direct PC connection, and wireless support for connecting to a Wi-Fi network. It includes a memory card slot that is limited to only SD and MemoryStick formats, though these are the most popular by far. A 100-sheet input paper tray is included, but no multipurpose tray is available for media like photo paper, requiring the main tray to be emptied. Reviewers found print quality to be fairly average, with solid text and good photo quality, though copies were slightly fuzzy.

The cost of Kodak 5210 ink cartridges is fairly average for its class, but the combined tricolor supply often means extra waste when one color runs out. Still, many users will appreciate the simplicity of replacing only two ESP 5210 ink cartridges on a regular basis. The black Kodak 5210 ink supply can provide up to 425 pages, while the color supply provides an estimated 420 pages.

Most buyers won't expect a lot from an inkjet model in the price range of the Kodak 5210, but it actually does a fairly good job at each of its tasks. The inclusion of wireless support and an LCD at such a low price is a nice surprise, but don't expect much beyond the basics.
