IBM 1532 Printer Review

Small or mid-sized offices will benefit from the affordable and efficient IBM Infoprint 1532. This single-purpose desktop laser printer does not offer color capabilities, but has the capacity to print up to 200,000 monochrome pages each month. The base unit is equipped with the standard features of an office machine, but the 1532 is also upgradeable, meaning it can expand as a company grows.

The built-in features include a 400 MHz processor, 64 MB of memory, and two paper trays that hold a total of 350 sheets. The memory can be expanded up to 576 MB and the input paper capacity can be increased to a maximum of 3,850 sheets. Other optional upgrades include a 20 GB hard drive, networking and duplexing, wireless connectivity, finishing features, and a stand to hold the 1532 so it doesn't take up desk space.

At maximum speed, up to 35 pages per minute can be printed, which averages to less than 2 seconds per page. At this speed, documents will have a resolution of 600x600 dpi. To increase the resolution to the maximum 1200x1200 dpi, the speed will be cut in half. This happens because more IBM 1532 toner is used to create a better image or sharper text, which requires more time.

Only a single Infoprint 1532 toner cartridge is used in this machine and it can yield up to 21,000 pages, so replacement toners will not be needed too often for smaller businesses. There are a number of places users can purchase IBM 1532 toner cartridges, but only certain resellers offer compatible printer toner. For companies on a tight budget, the third-party Infoprint 1532 toner will minimize the overall cost per page, yet still provide the same quality and yield as the OEM versions.
