HP 7520 Printer Review

The HP Photosmart 7520 is a marked improvement over the 6500 series of all-in-one inkjet printers, with a larger input capacity, an ADF, and solid ISO speeds of around 14 pages per minute for black and 10 pages per minute for color. Low prices on HP 7520 printer ink still keep it very cost-effective, however.

The 7520 can handle faxing, copying, and scanning in addition to printing photos and text. It can only handle one task at a time, however, unlike many laser multifunction devices. The chassis is a little bulkier than some home users might be able to accommodate. It measures 9x18x18 inches, and weighs around 19 pounds before the Photosmart 7520 ink supplies are installed.

As with most of HP's current lineup, the 7520 includes support for ePrint cloud printing and apps, as well as AirPrint, which makes for simple printing from iOS devices. Both of these features work nicely over Wi-Fi, but it is worth noting that the machine does not include a wired ethernet port, so wireless is the only networking option.

The 7520 includes much better paper handling, with an input paper capacity of 125 sheets and an output tray that can hold up to 50 sheets at a time. The 25-sheet automatic document feeder is a nice bonus, without adding too much bulk, and automatic duplexing is supported as well.

Photosmart 7520 ink cartridges come in the standard cyan, magenta, yellow, and black configuration, and can be replaced individually. Both standard and high-capacity HP 7520 ink cartridges are available, so users can choose between a lower upfront price or a better cost per page for their HP 7520 printer ink.

Features like ePrint and AirPrint and its improved paper capacity make the Photosmart 7520 inkjet well worth considering, especially for such a low price. Its capacity might still be too low for high-volume users, however, and lack of an ethernet port could be a sticking point for a few potential buyers.
