Compact and well equipped with multiple functions, the HP Photosmart 5510 e-All-in-One is a perfect match for a home or small office. This unit may not be the fastest in its class, but its wireless and PC-free capabilities make it appealing as a personal office printer. The production speed and quality of documents are good enough for a professional atmosphere, but the 2,500-page monthly duty cycle might be limiting in an office with growing demands.

In Normal print mode, the maximum print speed is 11 pages per minute, but in Draft mode, up to 22 pages per minute can be produced. The reason for such a difference in output rate is that Draft mode is specifically focused on reaching the maximum speed, so less HP 5510 printer ink is distributed per inch. Naturally, this results in a reduced resolution, but for basic text documents, the utmost quality may not be required anyway.

With all four HP 5510 ink cartridges installed, this inkjet printer still weighs less than 12 pounds. The frame measures only 17x13x6 inches, taking up very little desk or table space. There is a 2.3-inch touchscreen LCD on the front panel that allows users to enhance, edit, and print images loaded through the memory card slots. The 5510 is also compatible with HP ePrint and Apple AirPrint, which are mobile printing technologies that make it simple for users to print from their tablets or smartphones, or even through the cloud. It can handle printing, scanning, and copying, but it does lack faxing capabilities.

The cyan, magenta, yellow, and black Photosmart 5510 ink create true-to-life images and sharp, clear text. Optimized, the maximum resolution is 4800x1200 dpi, creating pictures that rival the quality produced in photo labs. A variety of media types are supported as well, including photo paper, greeting cards, and transparencies, giving users more creative options.

Replacement Photosmart 5510 ink cartridges can be purchased in OEM or compatible versions, with the latter being considerably less expensive. Users also have the choice of using standard-capacity or high-capacity printer ink. The standard HP 5510 ink will yield up to 300 pages while the high-capacity options can yield 750 pages of color and 550 pages for black.

The 5510 produces the quality expected of an inkjet printer with the speed of a laser printer. It offers multiple functions while not taking up too much space, and allows users to print from mobile devices. Though busy offices may find it a bit limiting, as a personal unit, the HP 5510 delivers.
