Designed to handle a variety of tasks in a work environment, the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780 is an all-in-one inkjet device with wireless capabilities and built-in networking features for easy sharing. The unit weighs about 40 pounds and is compact enough to fit on a standard table or desk, yet it serves the purpose of a scanner, copier, printer and fax machine. Adding the L7780 to a home or small office will conserve space, time and money.

As with most printers, the overall speed is based on the size and detail of the document as well as the print mode that is set. In Best mode, the resolution can reach up to 4800x1200 dpi but the maximum output rate is only about 10 seconds per page. In Draft mode, the amount of HP L7780 ink used per print is reduced; resulting in a lower resolution of 300x300 dpi, but up to 35 pages per minute can be produced. Users will have to set the mode according to the type of document being printed and the balance of quality and speed that is required.

Upon purchase, four standard-size HP L7780 ink cartridges are provided that hold cyan, magenta, yellow and black printer ink. Replacements are readily available online and in some local office supplies stores. High-capacity OfficeJet Pro L7780 ink cartridges are also available that will yield twice as much as the standard-capacity versions, but cost a bit more upfront. Still, the average cost per page will be lower. Some third-party retailers offer compatible HP L7780 ink at lower prices, which will reduce the cost per page even more.

The paper handling options of the L7780 are expandable and versatile. There is an automatic document feeder that will continuously send pages through the scanner for large documents. A primary input tray holds up to 250 sheets, but an additional tray is available to increase the total paper capacity to 600 sheets. The output tray can hold about 150 printed pages, depending on the thickness of the paper. Envelopes, transparencies, cards, and photo paper are among the various media types supported by this inkjet all-in-one.

Though experts have given the L7780 overall good reviews, there is some concern about the confusing control panel. There are a large number of buttons and the menu itself is slightly difficult to navigate. However, it does offer a 2.5" color LCD panel in which users can preview images uploaded from a memory card that is inserted into one the open memory card slots. This feature allows users to print pictures without using a PC.
