The HP OfficeJet Pro L7580 takes the great color output of an inkjet model and adds sophisticated office features to make an excellent all-in-one device that is great for a busy home office, or even a small office. It can fax, copy, and scan, and it prints at up to 35 pages per minute in black and 34 pages per minute in color, though high-quality settings will be much slower. Its major drawback is costly HP L7580 printer ink.

Unlike many home devices, where office features are a side benefit, the L7580 puts them front and center. It features a large, 50-sheet automatic document feeder for scanning many pages at a time, as well as a flatbed scanning platen for other media that can't be sheet-fed. The control panel features a number keypad, one-touch faxing locations, and one-button support for features like standalone copying.

Some home users might find the machine a bit bulky, as it measures 14x20.7x18.4 inches. It is also a bit heavier than users might expect, weighing 34.3 pounds without the OfficeJet Pro L7580 printer ink installed. The 250-sheet input tray is adequate for light-duty use, but is not upgradeable, and automatic duplex printing is supported.

The standard HP L7580 ink cartridges have limited capacities of only 850 pages each, which means a fairly high cost per page. High-capacity OfficeJet Pro L7580 ink cartridges are a bit more economical, providing up to 1,700 pages each. For the most cost-effective solution buyers can opt for compatible HP L7580 ink at lower prices than OEM supplies.

The HP L7580 all-in-one inkjet tries to skirt the line between a home photo printer and a business machine, but it will likely appeal to those who need its business features most of all. Its output quality is impressive, but print speeds drop quickly at higher settings.
