The HP OfficeJet H470 series are a line of portable inkjet printers including the H470b base model and the H470wbt that adds wireless support and expanded media handling. Among the small class of portable units, the machine can print some of the quickest speeds of up to 18 pages per minute for color projects and 22 pages per minute for monochrome. Other than its speeds and inexpensive HP H470 printer ink, the device suffers from a number of elements that may have buyers seeking other models.

The machine is designed with transportation in mind, with a compact size of 13x6x3 inches and trays that can fold neatly into the body. Despite its small size, the unit still includes standard connectivity like a PictBridge and USB port, as well as slots for flash memory like SD and miniSD that support direct photo printing. The device even comes with a rechargeable battery that can last long enough to print a maximum of 480 printed pages.

Unfortunately, reviews reveal more negatives than positives, including overall poor output quality. Text documents print well below the standard for inkjet units, with fuzzy characters despite a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi using black OfficeJet H470 printer ink. Tests on photos revealed they lack vivid color detail despite the inclusion of Real Life Technologies that is intended to produce more accurate image reproductions. The unit is also critiqued for its 50-sheet input tray that commonly causes paper to jam.

The printer uses one black and one tricolor HP H470 ink cartridge that are affordable to buy with the option of compatible replacements. The tricolor supply can yield approximately 560 pages and the black OfficeJet H470 ink has a maximum yield of 480 pages.

The H470 isn't all bad, with its quick speeds, cost-efficient HP H470 ink cartridges and portability. However, its disappointing output and proclivity for jamming are deal breakers when other portable printers can provide better-quality photos and text documents.
