An all-in-one color inkjet printer, the HP OfficeJet 7500a stands apart from many machines with similar features because it offers wide-format printing, meaning it can support paper up to 13x19 inches. Though this is a unique characteristic, the 7500a also supports more typical media types, such as envelopes, transparencies and photo paper. In fact, a 4x6 inch full-color photo can be printed in less than 20 seconds with high quality.

Other functions operate at fast speeds as well, including the fax machine, which can process a fax in as little as 3 seconds. Black-and-white documents can be generated at a rate of 33 pages per minute in draft mode and an ISO speed of 10 pages per minute. Color prints are also produced quickly, clocking in at a maximum of 32 pages per minute and 7 pages per minute ISO. Copies are made at about the same pace.

There is a 35-sheet automatic document feeder that sits on the top of the machine and will continuously feed multi-page documents through the scanner. Other paper handling features include a standard 150-sheet input tray and a 100-sheet output tray, neither of which can be expanded. As mentioned, this unit supports a variety of media types, and it is the photo paper that allows images to be created with an optimized resolution of 4800x1200 dpi. Business documents on regular paper can reach 600 dpi, which can leave text a little grainy.

Cyan, magenta, yellow and black printer ink is held in four separate HP 7500a ink cartridges. Each has its own slot and is easy to remove and install as needed. Replacements are readily available on the internet, and two different capacities are available. Standard OfficeJet 7500a ink cartridges can produce up to 300 pages in color and 420 pages in black. However, for a few extra bucks upfront, users can reduce the overall cost per page by purchasing high-capacity versions. The color high-capacity HP 7500a ink can render about 700 pages while the black supply can produce as many as 1,200 prints. Additionally, certain vendors offer compatible Officejet 7500a ink as a less expensive option.

USB and ethernet ports are available and located on the back of the unit, though the necessary cables are not provided. No cables are needed to utilize the built-in wireless capabilities, however. Another option for sending print jobs to the 7500a is through 2 available memory cards slots, though this is intended mainly for photo printing. These images can be previewed on the 2.4 inch touchscreen LCD display.

This wide-format inkjet printer has the versatility to meet office needs and the photo printing ability to appease home users. It is reliable and affordable, offering replacement HP 7500a printer ink that is reasonably-priced. There are few models in this class that offer a better value.
