The HP OfficeJet 5600 is a multipurpose device that can offer color scanning, faxing and copying, as well as a well-rounded photo printing function for professional-quality images and graphics. The device isn't the quickest in its class, printing only 20 pages per minute for monochrome projects and 13 pages per minute for color. In addition to slow speeds, the inkjet printer has a range of limited features and low-yielding OfficeJet 5600 printer ink that make it a beneficial option only for small offices.

The device provides users with a maximum paper capacity of 100 pages that can best support light-duty use. For quick multiple-page scanning, the unit does provide the convenience of a 25-sheet automatic document feeder. While the standard USB port will allow users to print from their PCs, the device lacks an ethernet connection option for the ability to print and scan over the office network.

The unit provides control features that allow for multitasking, including a front panel with a full number keypad for fax dialing, as well as dedicated buttons for scanning and copying. The front panel also comes with a small monochrome LCD to track documents and an LED that will alert users when HP 5600 printer ink is running low. Additional built-in technology will allow users to store up to 100 pages to fax memory and make up to 100 duplicates from an original document.

Using PhotoREt image enhancement technology, this device can print above par graphics and images with a precise resolution of 4800x1200 dpi using color OfficeJet 5600 ink. The device uses photo color, tricolor and black HP 5600 ink cartridges to ensure color detail is precise. Available high-capacity black supplies can yield up to 520 pages, while tricolor HP 5600 ink cartridges can last for up to 165 pages and the optional photo color supply approximately 140 pages.

Although the unit suffers from minimal features and unimpressive speeds, low-volume users will benefit from its superior output and user-friendly control panel. Those that don't mind spending a little more can get a more advanced multifunction inkjet printer with flexible connectivity and a more versatile set of features, however.
