The HP OfficeJet 5110, 5110I, 5110v and 5110xi are a series of color inkjet printers that can be classified as true all-in-one units because they can print, scan, copy and fax documents. The 5510 is the least expensive model because it has the most basic design, offering limited connectivity and slow maximum print speeds of only 12 pages per minute. This output makes it best fit to support home users, and its low-capacity OfficeJet 5110 printer ink and small media handling designate it as a light-duty unit.

The device is compatible with Mac and Windows operating systems, providing users with a built-in rear USB port to facilitate a quick and easy wired connection a user's computer. Missing standard connectivity like a network interface and support for flash drives separates this device from higher-end models. The unit does benefit from its internal PC faxing capabilities, as well as its ability to store up to 70 speed dials.

The control panel isn't very versatile, but it offers an adequate range of features like a monochrome LCD for updates on jobs, a navigation pad and buttons to select between monochrome and color copying. Scanning multiple-page jobs will be easy, as the unit has a dedicated 20-sheet automatic document feeder, which scans continuously so users don't have to watch over projects and feed each page.

The 5110 can support minimal daily needs with its small maximum media capacity of 150 pages. The device performs best when handling projects like standard text jobs and basic graphics, printing with readable characters and a resolution of 600x600 dpi using black HP 5110 printer ink. Photos print just a touch below the average quality of comparable units with a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi using color OfficeJet 5110 ink.

Using one tricolor HP 5110 ink cartridge that can last 450 pages and one black supply that has a yield of 500 pages will cause it to become expensive if users print often. To help minimize costs, users can choose to purchase remanufactured supplies instead of the pricier OEM HP 5110 ink cartridges.

The best argument that can be made for the 5110 is that it is one of the most affordable 4-in-1 printers made available for home offices. However, the attempt to make this inkjet printer more cost efficient results in it being too basic, leaving out useful and popular connectivity features and offering some of the slowest print speeds in its class.
