The HP OfficeJet 4315 is an all-in-one inkjet printer that has an inexpensive price tag and the functionality to support home or small offices. The device's speeds are a little disappointing, with a maximum print speed of only 20 pages per minute for monochrome and 14 pages for color projects, but its range of features and affordable operation costs make it worth considering. The 4315 is the base model in a series of machines, which also includes the 4315v and 4315xi models.

This device incorporates printing, scanning, copying and faxing capabilities all in a compact design of only 16x8x7 inches that will fit nicely on a desktop. Unfortunately, the front panel includes only a two-line monochrome LCD, though it does provide notifications on elements like low paper and OfficeJet 4315 printer ink levels. On a positive note, when the tray is open, the unit does provide features like standalone fax and copying capabilities, as well as a 20-sheet automatic document feeder for continuous scanning.

The printer can support a maximum monthly duty cycle of 1,000 pages and has a total media capacity of only 100 pages, making it best suitable for low-volume use. In addition to minimal capacity, the device also suffers from a lackluster output that can print text and graphics barely acceptable for internal distribution. Monochrome projects print with a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi, while graphics and images print with a resolution of 4800x1200 using color HP 4315 printer ink.

Users only need to worry about replacing two supplies, one black and one tricolor HP 4315 ink cartridge. Each have low yields that can contribute to higher running costs, with the tricolor lasting around 165 pages and the black OfficeJet 4315 ink yielding up to 160 pages. Users can also replace black HP 4315 ink cartridges with a high-capacity option that can print up to 220 pages.

Considering its slow speeds, poor output quality and lack of intuitive management features, the 4315 is at the bottom of the list in its class of multifunction inkjet printers. Despite being compact and inexpensive to purchase, it is difficult to recommend.
