HP 4110 Printer Review

The HP OfficeJet 4110 is the base model in a series of basic multifunction devices that print at a slow speed of only 12 pages per minute for monochrome documents compared to other inkjet printers in their class. While the additional series models, the 4110v and 4110xi, don't offer quicker speeds, they do offer more robust fax and copy features. However, the differences between the models aren't pronounced, making the 4110 more attractive due to its low price and ability to cost-efficiently handle print, scan, copy and fax needs in a home or small office.

The 4110 is best suited to support low-volume printing needs due to a built-in memory of only 1 MB and a small monthly duty cycle of 1,000 pages. The device is also equipped with a low maximum media capacity of only 100 pages, which includes only one input tray. Thankfully, it can support envelopes, plain paper and photo paper, among other media types. For larger scan jobs, the machine provides users with a 20-sheet automatic document feeder that can continuously feed originals.

Provided on its front control panel are a range of buttons and features. This includes a full number pad that enables users to store up to 70 speed dials, a monochrome LCD and a dedicated button to immediately cancel a job. The control panel will also allow users to stay updated on OfficeJet 4110 printer ink levels, as well as select copying between 1 and 99 duplicates from an original document.

The device can print directly from computers with Mac and Windows operating systems through its rear USB port. The 4110 loses some of its appeal due to its lack of popular connectivity options like an ethernet interface for networking through the office, Wi-Fi and memory card slots. One attribute that helps make up for this is its ability to print sharp color and monochrome projects. Text characters print with density and resolution of 600x600 dpi using black HP 4110 ink, while graphics and photos have sharp detail and a resolution 4800x1200 dpi using color printer ink.

The unit operates with one black HP 4110 ink cartridge and another tricolor supply that contains cyan, magenta and yellow OfficeJet 4110 ink. Tricolor supplies can last up to 190 pages and the black HP 4110 ink cartridge has a yield of 520 pages.

The 4110 is a solid choice for home users, but loses points for its minimal connectivity, as well as its slow maximum print output. Although not the most impressive addition to its class of small and home office inkjet printers, this device does have a low price tag considering its 4-in-1 design.
