HP M1536 Printer Review

The HP LaserJet M1536 series of monochrome laser printers includes the M1536D and M1536DN, which add on duplexing for conserving paper by utilizing both sides, and networking capabilities. The M1536DNF also includes faxing capabilities. The series works at moderate speeds, producing the first page out in less than 10 seconds and pushing duplicates and prints at a maximum speed of 26 pages per minute. This workhorse printer has an all-in-one design that offers a slew of connection options and features beneficial for small workgroups.


The manufacturer provides a starter LaserJet M1536 toner cartridge, a getting started guide, and an overview of the control panel. The control panel overlay will be useful because it's a straightforward guide to managing projects and the unit's multiple functions with the buttons and menu provided.

This unit's single black HP M1536 toner system has the simplicity of a single supply that is easy and affordable to replace. The standard replacement black HP M1536 toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,100 pages. Unfortunately, no higher-capacity toners are supported for this particular model. Remanufactured supplies are available, however, and can reduce spending compared to genuine versions.

As often sees with run-of-the mill workgroup monochrome printers, there are benefits and losses to owning this machine. A variety of connection options and the added ability for duplexing and networking included with other models in the series will fit well in an office. However, the minimal paper handling and lack of high-capacity LaserJet M1536 toner detract from its appeal and keep it to limited to low-volume use.
