The HP LaserJet M1120 series of all-in-one laser printers includes the M1120 MFP, as well as the M1120n and M1120n MFP that have the addition of network connectivity. The base model has slower maximum speeds than most in its class, printing around 19 pages per minute for monochrome projects. While reviews indicate that HP M1120 printer toner can become expensive to replace, its affordable retail price and multifunction design make the M1120 worth a look for workgroups.
A small size of 18x14x12 inches will enable users to operate the unit from their desktop. A flatbed scanner is included at the top of the machine, which can scan color or monochrome projects with an 8-bit grayscale depth and 24-bit color depth. The machine comes with a 50-sheet automatic document feeder that is actually tucked beneath the flatbed scanner to continuously scan multi-page documents at a faster rate than users could handle manually.
With a maximum monthly duty cycle of 5,000 pages and its 250-sheet total media capacity this device is targeted for small workgroups that need to print, scan or copy projects. With its monochrome LCD and front panel, the copier can be used independently from a PC to make duplicates that mirror the original document, with a resolution of 600x600 dpi using black LaserJet M1120 toner.
Since the unit only operates with a single black HP M1120 toner cartridge, buyers may anticipate inexpensive running costs, but reviews indicate that replacements have a high cost per page. To help combat this, third-party vendor sites offer remanufactured toners that are less than half the cost of genuine HP M1120 toner cartridges. Each black LaserJet M1120 toner can yield a maximum of 2,000 pages, making the device suitable for workgroups with lower volumes.
From unimpressive print speeds, to its penchant for higher running costs, the M1120 is not among the more attractive all-in-one workgroup printers. Although it has a solid output, a standalone copy function and a flexible scanner, the device is not the best deal buyers can get for their money.
