It is compact enough to easily carry around, has a battery for operating without a power outlet, and can even reach speeds of up to 3 pages per minute. Best of all, it uses affordable HP 310 printer ink, so it is very cost-effective as well.

The 310 is easy to set up and to pack up for carrying around. The unit itself measures 2.5x12x5.75 inches, and it weighs just 4.3 pounds, so it can be carried comfortably for extended amounts of time if necessary. One of the biggest tradeoffs of its portable design, however, is its lack of a paper tray. Instead, users must load each sheet manually, one at a time. The alternative is to add a cut-sheet feeder, but this adds some extra bulk that users might not want.

Buyers shouldn't expect stellar output quality, as the maximum resolution is only 300x300 dpi, and they also shouldn't plan to use it for heavy workloads. Compatible HP 310 ink is available from many third-party vendors for lower prices than OEM versions.

For a business person who needs to print while traveling, or even a home user who wants to share photos and documents at a family reunion, the portability of the 310 will be appealing. Its low purchase price and low-cost DeskWriter 310 ink make it very cost-effective, but there are models on the market that are a little more portable and offer better print quality.
