HP 970Cxi Printer Information
Using thermal inkjet drop-on-demand technology, the HP Deskjet 970cxi gives users the ability to print high-grade photographs and professional text documents at home. With a footprint of only 8x15x17 inches and a weight of about 12 pounds, this device is easy to move and store, and will plug into a computer via USB or parallel connection. The 970cxi supports both Windows and Mac operating systems and has earned an Energy Star certification, which measures its energy use and environmental impact.
This personal printer uses HP PhotoREt III and HP Colorsmart III technologies to ensure brilliant photos with bright, enhanced colors created by the vibrant Deskjet 970cxi ink that is used. In fact, the printer ink for this machine is resistant to fading and water damage, meaning pictures can last for many, many years. Four colors are held in two HP 970cxi ink cartridges and can create a massive color palette consisting of some colors that are not even recognizable to the human eye but are imperative for true-to-life details in images.
Print modes can be changed by the users to adjust the speed and quality. For top quality, the speed will be slower, and for top speed, the quality will be a bit lower. In Draft mode, which focuses on speed by reducing the number of dots of HP 970cxi ink applied per inch, the maximum speed is 12 pages per minute for black-and-white and 3 pages per minute for full color pages. In Best mode, the speed is cut in half but the maximum resolution is 600x600 dpi for black-and-white documents and 2400x1200 dpi in color. Color 4x6-inch photos can print in 1-2 minutes.
Up to 150 sheets of standard paper can be loaded at one time on the input tray, and the output tray will catch as many as 50 completed documents. Various media types can be used, such as envelopes, photo paper, transparencies, and labels. The glossy and photo paper will provide a better canvas for the HP 970cxi printer ink to shine. Whether users opt to use OEM or remanufactured Deskjet 970cxi ink cartridges, both of which are readily available, only 450 color pages and 830 black pages can be printed with each supply.
The maximum quality of the 970cxi is good enough for this inkjet unit to be considered a photo printer, yet efficient enough to be used for work. It is not equipped to handle busy environments and it can only produce about 5,000 pages per month, but it is a good value and size for a home office.
