It is a color inkjet model with features that will appeal to basic home users and photo enthusiasts alike, and offers better quality than many of the budget devices on the market. It also keeps things simple, with only two types of HP 6940 ink to replace, and printer ink costs are affordable.

The unit also goes by the names of 6940dt, and 6940C, which simply point out the duplexing and color printing capabilities. Duplexing is particularly appealing, as it can save users paper by printing two-sided sheets with a simple menu setting.
