Large-format printers are designed to meet the needs of businesses such as advertisement companies or engineers that require large prints. The HP DesignJet T2300 is an inkjet large-format printer, also referred to as a plotter, which can print on materials up to 44 inches wide, and also has the ability to scan documents and make copies. Weighing just under 230 pounds, the T2300 is formidable, but comes on a stand with wheels that makes it a bit easier to move.

On the front of the machine, there is a color LCD with touchscreen capabilities. This allows users to easily change settings and select different functions. For instance, if a user needs to scan a contract in between printing large blueprints, they can hand-feed the sheet of paper through the alternative-media slot and use the touchscreen display to activate the scan function. The LCD also displays the progress of tasks and the level of remaining T2300 ink.

Built into this device is a 160 GB hard drive with 32 GB of virtual memory, allowing for large tasks to be stored and processed. The standard paper comes on a roll, though various media types are supported, including film, labels, self-adhesive photo paper, and backlit paper. For line drawings, it takes about 28 seconds per page. When printing color images, though, the maximum speed is 549 feet per hour.

There are six HP T2300 ink cartridges that are used in this unit. The standard colors, cyan, magenta, and yellow, are joined by gray, and the black printer ink comes in two forms- matte and photo. All of the DesignJet T2300 ink is dye-based except for the matte black, which is pigment-based. The thermal inkjet technology uses nozzles located on the printheads to eject small drops of HP T2300 ink. The drops are layered and the resolution is measured in dots per inch (dpi). The maximum resolution that this machine can render is 2400x1200 dpi.

There are two different sizes of HP T2300 ink cartridges. The smaller set holds 69 ml of printer ink while the other set holds 130 ml. Many vendors online offer remanufactured DesignJet T2300 ink cartridges, which yield the same number of pages and produce the same quality, but are considerably less expensive than OEM versions.

For offices in need of a large-format printer, the HP DesignJet T2300 is a solid option that will deliver professional-quality documents efficiently and consistently. Clearly this machine is intended for users with specific wide-format printing needs, but its multifunction capabilities erase the need to have multiple pieces of equipment in the workplace.
