The Epson WorkForce 635 is an all-in-one inkjet printer that would fit well in a small office environment or used in the home. It is attractive, with a sharp black frame and modern design. It is also compact, weighing only about 17 pounds and measuring 18x22x9 inches, so it will not take up much space or be difficult to install. The 635 has a fairly complex control panel, but offers a series of buttons that make it easy to switch between the fax, scan, copy and print functions, as well as a 2.5" LCD that allows users to preview, edit and print photos without a PC.

Unfortunately, speeds for printing pictures are rather slow, taking over 2 minutes to deliver a standard 4x6" photo. So, anyone who prints a lot of images may prefer a faster device. The overall ISO output rate is competitive with other printers in this class, clocking in at about 15 pages per minute in black-and-white and 7.2 pages per minute in color. When printing in duplex mode, that rate is cut in half.

This device uses Epson 635 printer ink that dries instantly and will remain resistant to fading, smudging and water for over 100 years. The interpolated resolution that can be created using the inkjet technology and WorkForce 635 ink is 5760x1440 dpi. This sharp quality will make for crisp and clear business documents, but photo quality is subpar according to previous owners and expert reviewers.

There are tons of ways users can connect to the 635, and most operating systems will be compatible. Wireless is the most popular option, eliminating the need for countless cables that can clutter a home or be a safety hazard in an office. Wired networking is possible through an ethernet port, and a standard USB port is also available. Specialty connection options include a USB dock on the front of the unit for uploading documents and images from thumb drives, with PictBridge support for direct connection to digital cameras, as well as memory card slots. All three of these specialty connection options can eliminate the need to use a computer when printing.

Replacement Epson 635 ink cartridges come in different sizes, giving users the option to pay more upfront for higher yields or pay less upfront but order more often. The high-capacity color WorkForce 635 ink cartridges can yield 480 pages and the black supply can yield 740 pages. The extra high-capacity printer ink for this unit produces 755 pages for color and 945 pages for black. Additionally, third-party companies sell compatible Epson 635 ink for a more affordable option.

Though the speed is not the fastest and the 635 may lack some clarity with photo printing, its multiple functions and versatile connection options make it a good match for small offices. It has the ability to produce professional quality documents and will not take up too much space.
