On paper, the multi-functioning Epson Stylus is an affordable option for handling the versatile tasks of a home office, including printing, scanning, and copying. In reality, however, the reviews for this unit are generally negative, ranging from lackluster print quality to poor reliability, though focused primarily on the inconveniences attached to the Epson NX110 ink. The old adage ‘you get what you pay for' seems to ring true when it comes to this particular inkjet printer.

The basic components do not differ much from other devices in the same class. The 610 is compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems and it offers high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity. It is compact, at 17x18.5x12 inches and weighs in at about 10 pounds. This unit offers standard memory capacity and the nozzles can eject droplets of Epson NX110 printer ink as small as 4 picoliters onto the paper.

The DURABrite printer ink is rated to last for up to 118 years due to its resistance to water and general fading. However, the low yield of the Stylus NX110 ink cartridges is rather limiting, even if the high-capacity versions are being used. This is not uncommon with inkjet printers, however, the major complaint is that a single color running out will shut down production entirely. For instance, if the cyan Epson NX110 ink cartridge is empty, not even black-and-white documents can be printed until it is replaced.

Speed overall is not too bad, maxing out at about 28 pages per minute in black-and-white, though this is only in draft mode. At the highest quality setting, the speed is reduced to less than 3 pages per minute. Users can use various types of matte and glossy paper to enhance quality, but the input tray can only hold up to 80 sheets. Envelopes and photo paper are also a supported media types, and it can handle media up to 8.5x14 inches maximum.

In general, this all-in-one device is slightly disappointing to reviewers for a number of reasons. Though it is reviewed as not being very reliable, when it functions properly, the NX110 is beneficial in small offices. The silver lining here is that replacement Stylus NX110 ink is available in less expensive, compatible versions, but it is otherwise an expensive machine to operate.
