Epson CX4400 Printer Review

The Epson Stylus CX4400 is nearly the perfect personal printer. It weighs only about 11 pounds and despite a small footprint it still includes a printer, scanner, and copier. All three functions can be used for black-and-white or color documents as well as photographs. Windows and Mac operating systems are both supported and a PC can connect to the CX4400 via the full-speed USB port.

Drop-on-demand inkjet technology creates impressive color and bold text by applying thousands of dots of Epson CX4400 ink per inch of paper. The printer ink is ejected from nozzles attached to the printheads, of which there are 177 nozzles total. The DURABrite Ultra Stylus CX4400 ink is resistant to smudging, fading, and water damage and will maintain its quality for up to 105 years. The maximum optimized resolution is 5760x1440 dpi.

Color or black-and-white copies can be made with one touch without a PC even being needed. The flatbed scanner operates with a 48-bit internal color depth, equating to a maximum scan resolution of 9600 dpi. An automatic duplexer is also built into this machine. Prints and copies can be made at a rate of 24 pages per minute using only the black Epson CX4400 ink and documents requiring multiple colors of printer ink will be produced at 12 pages per minute.

Unfortunately, the supplies for this inkjet printer are not designed to handle frequent printing. Each color of Epson CX4400 ink cartridge can yield about 200 pages while the black supply yields only about 170 pages. Though replacements may be needed often for users who print a lot, remanufactured Stylus CX4400 ink cartridges are available for about half the price but still offering the same output quality.

The 80-sheet input tray supports various media types such as transparencies, specialty photo paper, glossy, and matte paper. With such a versatile number of tasks the CX4400 is able to complete, most home offices will benefit greatly from the addition.
