The Epson Artisan 810 is the ideal inkjet printer for the home or even a home office. Though it is not equipped to handle large volumes, it can perform a number of functions for a low price, including scanning, copying, printing and faxing. Additionally, the 810 has the ability to produce vivid photos that will last for many years without fading or smudging, due to the Hi-Definition, dye-based Epson 810 ink.

Approximately 9-10 pages per minute can be printed in black-and-white or color, though the text quality is somewhat sub-par. It can produce a 4x6-inch photo in as little as 10 seconds and has an impressive optimized maximum resolution of 5760x1440 dpi. The Super G3 fax machine has a transmission rate of 33.6 Kbps, which translates to an average rate of 3 seconds per fax received. However, it is the copy machine that takes the cake in terms of speed, clocking in at a maximum of 38 copies per minute. This production rate is aided by the 30-sheet automatic document feeder.

Users can connect to this unit via USB port, ethernet interface, or wirelessly. Bluetooth is an option, though a separate adapter will need to be purchased. Memory card slots allow images to be loaded into the printer without a computer and those images can be previewed, edited, or restored using the 7.8" touchscreen panel with 3.5" LCD.

One of the reasons photos come out with such sharp and accurate colors is the 6-color Epson 810 ink system. Standard printers offer 4-color systems that consist of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black printer ink. This unit, however, also includes light cyan and light magenta Artisan 810 ink cartridges. These additional colors expand the color spectrum, adding brightness and detail to a picture. Replacement Epson 810 ink cartridges are readily available online in OEM and remanufactured forms.

The input tray can hold up to 120 sheets, which is a bit lower than an average all-in-one device, but an additional photo tray is available that can hold up to 20 sheets of photo paper. Also, there is a special slot for printing on DVDs and CDs. The high-grade Artisan 810 ink and built-in image enhancement technology creates photos that are estimated to last up to 4 times longer than lab photos.

With a 6-color printer ink system and four major functions, the 810 is an excellent inkjet printer for personal use or light home office use. Though most work environments will exceed the limitations of this unit, photo enthusiasts will certainly get their money's worth.
