The Epson Artisan 730 is built to deliver superb color images to cater to personal users with a creative side. It also functions as an all-in-one unit with fast speeds, copying monochrome and color documents at a rate of up to 38 pages per minute and printing 4x6 inch photos in as fast as 10 seconds. Despite a multifunction design, reviews on output make it best used primarily as a photo inkjet printer for the home user.

Features that will enhance images include Easy Photo Print software, Image Color Management and its Micro Piezo Epson 730 printer ink system. It also supports direct image printing from memory cards like CompactFlash and Memory Stick in addition to its Wi-Fi and network connectivity. The unit has a conveniently large built-in 2.5 inch LCD that can be used to view images prior to printing.

The device can only handle low volumes, with its small paper capacity of only 120 sheets, but it is versatile in the type of media supported, including CDs and DVDs and a range of different photo papers. On specialty photo paper, the device can print superior images with vibrant color and a maximum enhanced resolution of 5760x1440 dpi using Artisan 730 printer ink. While inkjets aren't typically known for excelling at text output, the device drops the bar in this category by printing documents that lack dense black characters, and plain paper output can often look faded.

The machine incorporates 6 individual cyan, magenta, yellow, light magenta, light cyan and black Epson 730 ink cartridges. It uses Claria Hi-Definition Artisan 730 ink and is able to produce a minimum droplet size of 1.5 picoliters. Each color replacement has a capacity of approximately 500 pages and the black Epson 730 ink cartridge can yield 545 pages.

While its all-in-one features don't add anything new to today's multifunction printers, the unit has a well-received photo output that makes it worth the low purchase price. With the addition of flexible connectivity and a variety of management technology, the 730 is a suitable personal photo printer to have around, as long as users don't mind its lackluster text output.
