Capable of handling various tasks and designed to be affordable, the Dell V515 (or V515W) has the functions and features to be a solid home or small office printer. However, a number of issues make it less appealing, according to a number of expert reviews. The speed is above average for an inkjet printer at 33 black-and-white pages per minute and 30 pages per minute in full color. Photos take longer to print, though.

Standard text and light graphics print with sharp lines and color, making the V515 a sufficient all-in-one machine for small workgroups. Complex graphics and images fall short of the quality standard set by other color inkjet printers on the market, however. The maximum resolution using all four colors of Dell V515 ink is 4800x1200 dpi, and the resolution for documents requiring only black printer ink is 600x600 dpi.

Some reviews have referred to this machine as an "ink guzzler", implying that the Dell V515 ink cartridges have to be replaced frequently if users print on a regular basis. Because it can copy, fax and print, work groups will most likely being using the V515 often. For this reason, users may want to choose compatible Dell V515 ink that costs significantly less than the name-brand option.

The automatic document feeder holds up to 35 sheets, the input tray holds 100 sheets and the output tray can hold only 25 documents, which could be limiting for some users. Most Windows operating systems are compatible and users have a variety of connection options, including USB, ethernet, wireless or through a PictBridge port, which allows for direct connection to a digital camera.

There are a number of things about the V515 that make it versatile, but its relatively cheap design has flaws that can hinder productivity. The printer ink may be used up quickly, but compatible Dell V515 ink cartridges will keep operating expenses to a minimum.
