Dell 2355dn Printer Review
The Dell 2355 is a small office monochrome laser printer that has the ability to scan, copy and fax. This machine will be most appropriate in small work groups, though it does have the durability to produce up to 80,000 documents per month. The speed is fairly standard for a machine of this type, clocking in at a maximum rate of 33 pages per minute, which equates to approximately 2 seconds per page. Of course, the speed will vary based on the complexity of the document being printed, as well as the quality settings.
Also referred to as the 2355dn because of its built-in ability to be shared in a network and duplex printing capabilities, this machine has the basic features and functions to handle most office needs. It has a 360 MHz processor and 256 MB of memory, which can be upgraded to 512 MB if needed. The paper capacity is also expandable. The base model includes a 250-sheet input tray, a 50-sheet bypass tray (for alternative media types such as envelopes, labels and transparencies) and a 150-sheet output tray. An additional 250-sheet input tray is sold separately. The single most impressive feature on the 2355 is the 4.3" touchscreen LCD on the control panel, which makes navigating through the machine's menu much easier, and is fairly rare for such an affordable device.
There is an easily accessible side panel that makes changing the Dell 2355 toner cartridges very simple. Replacement toners are easy to find online and the third party, compatible printer toner options keep costs to a minimum. The standard capacity Dell 2355 toner cartridge can yield as many as 3,000 pages, however a high-capacity version is available that yields up to 6,000 pages.
The high-capacity Dell 2355 printer toner option will reduce the overall cost per page, but that is not the only choice for savings. Many third-party vendors make compatible and remanufactured Dell 2355 toner which comes with a guarantee to work just as well as OEM, but for less than half the price.
The ethernet interface allows network sharing among multiple users, but a USB 2.0 port is also present on the back of the unit for basic connection to a single computer. A front-mounted USB port supports printing from flash memory devices. Just about any operating system will be compatible with the 2355, including Windows and Mac.
Though the 2355 may not have some of the fancy features that large office machines have, it sits at the top its class because of the intuitive touchscreen LCD. The speed and quality will be sufficient for small offices and the expandable features allow this unit to grow with a business.
