Canon MP390 Printer Review
Unique in design, the Canon SmartBase MP390 is very stylish and modern, with a frame that appears top-heavy and a shiny black and silver exterior. The control panel, 100-sheet input paper feeder, and flatbed scanner occupy the head of the unit, while the bottom has an output tray equipped to catch various sizes and types of documents. On the front of the MP390 there is a PictBridge port for direct camera connection as well as slots for memory cards, allowing users to print without a computer.
This inkjet unit is fully loaded with a full document management system as well as an intuitive Canon MP390 ink system that keeps users posted on the level of printer ink remaining. Unfortunately, the SmartBase MP390 ink cartridges only yield up to 160 pages, so replacements will be needed often for busy users. There are vendors online that offer compatible Canon MP390 ink cartridges, though, which will cost significantly less than the OEM options.
Up to 18 pages per minute can be printed in black-and-white, 12 pages per minute in color, and a borderless 4x6-inch photograph will print in about a minute. When scanning, there is an internal color depth of 48 bits, which renders an interpolated resolution of 9600x9600 dpi. Copies will have a maximum resolution of 1200x1200 dpi, while pictures printed with the color SmartBase MP390 ink on specialty photo paper can reach a maximum resolution of 4800x1200 dpi.
This machine supports various Windows operating systems and connects through a high-speed USB 2.0 port. Duplex printing is available, and the MicroFine Droplet Technology uses nozzles to eject 2-picoliter drops of Canon MP390 printer ink to create such impressive resolutions. The fax machine is Super G3 compatible, meaning it will process faxes in as little as 3 seconds, and do so with professional quality.
The Canon SmartBase MP390 includes four important functions all wrapped up into one sleek device that uses inkjet technology to produce high-end quality and speed. It is ideal for offices with versatile needs or as a personal photo printer.
