Looking for a machine that will handle all of the occasional needs of the home user? The Canon PIXMA MX350 has the ability to be accessed by any computer in the vicinity via wireless networking or even a wired Ethernet connection, and it can handle the printing, scanning, faxing, and copying needs of the average consumer, at a very affordable price.

A PictBridge connection and memory card slots are included for printing without the use of a PC, and a Bluetooth option allowing users to print from handheld devices. The speed is decent for a color inkjet all-in-one, producing up to 5 pages per minute in color, 9 black-and-white documents per minute and a 4x6 inch color photo in only 43 seconds.

Given 3 out of 5 stars in an expert review, this machine is affordable upfront but can become a costly expense if used in an environment with high-volume demands. Its standard Canon MX350 ink cartridges only yield 220 pages for black and 244 pages for the color. However, there are two alternative options that can reduce the overall costs. High-volume printer ink is available which will cost more than the standard but yield twice as many pages. Compatible PIXMA MX350 ink cartridges can also be purchased from third party vendors for less than half the price of the OEM versions.

The multifunction capabilities make the MX350 much more than just an inkjet printer. The overall quality of scans, faxes and copies are a bit less impressive than the quality of photos and printed pages. The 4800x1200 dpi print resolution created by the color Canon MX350 ink and the 600x600 dpi print resolution in monochrome provide sharp output, however. The high-grade PIXMA MX350 ink, Dual Color Gamut Processing Technology and Canon's signature nozzle printing system give this unit the edge on many other models in the same class in terms of quality.

Up to 100 sheets can be held in the input tray and 30 sheets will fit in the automatic document feeder, which makes continuous scanning of multi-page documents easier. Security features keep confidential documents safe and the color LCD on the top panel allows users to navigate settings and options as well as displays the level of remaining Canon MX350 ink and other important information.

The MX350 includes robust features, important functions, and excellent print quality in a sharp, modern frame that make it a fine choice for a personal multifunction printer. Its potentially high costs are easy to reduce with compatible printer ink.
